Meet The Chef

Chef Erny Salas's Bio

Chef Erny Salas developed his culinary foundation at Grossmont Community College, where he built his skills and passion for cooking.

He has worked at Il Dandy, Civico, and Uppercrust. Each of these places had their own merit, but all represented the philosophy of quality food and nutrition, which continues to influence his approach in the kitchen today.

Chef Erny gravitates toward Mediterranean cuisine, appreciating its fresh ingredients, balance, and bold flavors.

His passion for culinary arts began as a teenager when he attended a wedding and watched an entire party go from lively conversation to complete silence as everyone focused on eating something so delicious. In that moment, he realized how food can be a powerful symbol of unity and connection.

Outside of the kitchen, he enjoys spending time with the people he loves, whether that’s playing Magic: The Gathering with friends, bowling, or going on a hike.

A fun fact about Chef Erny is that he has traveled around the world, experiences that have helped shape both his perspective and appreciation for different cultures and cuisines.

Down to Earth Cuisine provides meals that are sustainably and responsibly sourced. We use GMO free products, organic when available, and wild caught seafood approved by the Monterey Bay Aquarium Guide to Sustainable Fishing.

Custom delivery uses only compostable containers to reduce plastic waste. We also work with One Tree Planted, a nonprofit that plants trees on our behalf to offset our carbon footprint.
